“We’re a silver lining kind of people so we turned the negative of the fire into a positive,” said owner Neal Kielar. “In addition to the needed repairs and welcome improvements like refinished hardwood floors and added lighting, we’ve found lots of other ways to enhance the space and the shopping experience.
“We’ve been building back our inventory, too, with a busy workshop restoring recently acquired furniture, getting new pieces from our furniture-making partner, and adding more original artwork, studio pottery and vintage art glass,” he said. “When we reopen it will be with a well-appointed collection.”
MidModMen+friends offers authentic mid-century, modern and made-in-Minnesota furniture and decor at its best. Their vintage items are cleaned, rejuvenated or fully restored according to need. The store also showcases local artisans who create original furniture and lighting. Work by local and regional artists is often on display, as well.
Kielar and his partner opened in fall 2012 as a retail pop up experiment and the store has anchored the space ever since. MidModMen+friends attracts customers from throughout the Twin Cities and Minnesota, and often beyond. It is located at 2401 University Avenue West. Store hours are Friday and Saturday from 11am to 5pm and Sunday from 11am to 4pm.
Shoppers can preview many of the available items in the showcase section at MidModMen.com, and on Instagram by following @MidModMen.

Neal. Glad you’re back in your space. That had to be very difficult.
All my best.
Cindi.
