City Pages names MidModMen+friends 2016 “Best Place to Buy Furniture”

The Twin Cities weekly entertainment and lifestyle publication City Pages named MidModMen+friends one of its “best” in the annual “Best of the Twin Cities” issue, published on April 20.

MidModMen+friends got the nod for “Best Place to Buy Furniture” with high marks for style, accessibility, restoration and community.

Here’s what they had to say:

At last there’s a store specializing in midcentury without the attitude, the stratospheric prices, or the minimalist décor. And in addition to offering cleaned, rejuvenated, and restored vintage and modern furniture, the gang loves color: Lighting, glassware, fabrics, and vibrant artwork and textiles by Lisa Rydin Erickson (who has become something of an artist-in-residence at MidModMen) come in a vivacious spectrum of oranges, reds, greens, and blues to enliven the clean, streamlined wood of the eclectic furnishings. The store is also a good neighbor, holding frequent sales, celebrating its presence on the Green Line, welcoming new businesses to the community, and hosting events with Docomomo MN, a nonprofit that seeks to educate the public on and preserve modern architecture. MidModMen opened as a three-month retail experiment — a pop-up — three years ago, expanded next door for a bit, and contracted again when Workhorse Coffee moved in. Now, MidModMen+friends is a destination, restoring furniture while anchoring the revitalization of University Avenue at 280 into a hip new zone for creativity, community, and vintage collectibles.
