From chairs to tables to lamps, all his designs are original and he builds each piece by hand – many of them one-of-a-kind. Here are currently available items. We take vintage furniture rescue seriously, and so does our furniture-making partner. We gave him an orphaned Danish teak table top and he designed and handcrafted this one-of-a-kind accent table. The new base is a sustainable African mahogany, and that elevates it even more. DIMENSIONS: 27-1/2”W x 21-1/2”D x 20-2/2”H.
Our furniture partner has kicked off the new year with two retro-futuristic easy chairs, made using solid African mahogany. The profile is dramatic with cantilevered speak-like arms and a deep side scoop. Each has striped jewel tone cushions – one deep orange and the other vibrant teal – in ARC-COM Raya fabric. Available individually. FRAME DIMENSIONS: 28-1/2″W x 32″D x 30″H.
Another handmade piece from an original design by our resident furniture-making partner. This sleek two-seater has a solid white oak frame and modernist designs. The medium gray striped cushions are a perfect complement; they’re firm but comfortable. DIMENSIONS: 53-1/2″L x 28″D x 31″H and 19″ seat height.
This distinctive piece is a collaboration between two of our store partners. One of them designed and hand built the solid ash frame, which features a semi-opaque black finish that highlights the wood grain. The other partner completed the look with new cushions using vintage fabrics in black, winter white and red. Unlike some vintage daybeds, this piece is rock solid. FRAME DIMENSIONS: 71″L x 27″D x 33″H to the top of the backrest.
Modern can mean comfortable, too. This one-of-a-kind design comes from our resident furniture-maker whose chairs have gained widespread acclaim. The frame is solid African mahogany with a walnut stain. For the cushions we choose a deep red fabric with a sustainable 80% recycled content. DIMENSIONS: 28-1/2″W x 32″D x 30″H.
Solid American ash easy chair hand built by our furniture-making partner. His original design channels classic mid-century style with flared arms and raked legs. Paired with new cushions covered in 50% recycled leather.
The latest chair from our furniture-making partner. As always, it’s an original design and hand-built with an emphasis on quality materials and construction. He used solid white oak and gave it an oiled finish to warm up the wood tone. We created the custom cushions using Designtex Hashtag fabric, both for its looks and durability. FRAME DIMENSIONS: 26″W x 26″D x 30″H with an 18″ seat height.
Handsome bench from our furniture-making partner. It’s an original design and he built it by hand using solid walnut. There’s a hint of George Nakashima in the design with an equal attention to details, like the beveled seat that enhances comfort. DIMENSIONS: 46″L x 18″D x 29-3/4″H with 18″ seat height.
Impressive floor lamp from our furniture-making partner. He used solid cherry to create a cantilevered design with an asymmetrical fishtail base. It’s topped with vintage fiberglass lampshade with a textured swirl pattern. DIMENSIONS: 61-1/2” tall x 20” lampshade diameter x 24” deep from front to back.
In addition to his much-loved chair designs, our furniture-making partner has crafted some distinctive lamps. The latest is this modern floor lamp with a hint of brutalist style. The tapered wood spike pole rests in a wood base. DIMENSIONS WITH SHADE: 61-5/8″H x 18″D.
Something old. Something new. Our furniture-making partner created a floating top coffee table using reclaimed teak for a vintage headboard and new African mahogany for the base and accent. It has a dramatic profile with sharply tapered legs and a thin edge top. Truly one of a kind. DIMENSIONS: 54-1/4″L x 23-1/3″D x 16-3/4″H.
It’s not possible to save every piece of furniture that comes into our possession. But sometimes we rescue materials and turn them over to our creative furniture-making partner. He used the headboard from an otherwise damaged bed frame to make this floating top coffee table in the style of Jens Risom. DIMENSIONS: 54″L x 21-1/2″D x 16″H.
Our locally based furniture-making partner is channeling his Nordic roots with a series of new pieces using natural white oak. This mid-century style coffee table uses the material to great effect. The size is versatile and the it features a pass-through shelf. DIMENSIONS: 50″L x 21″D x 17″H.
Free form accent tables that evoke the cloud table designs by Paul Frankl from the 1950s. This pair is handcrafted in Minnesota using solid white oak. Features include tripod bases, soft edges and reverse bevels. There are two available. DIMENSIONS: 27-1/4″W x 22″D x 21″H.
Another artfully designed console table from our furniture-making partner. He crafted this one using solid hickory, which has distinctive figuring in the wood. There is a clear Scandinavian feel to the design, but it’s wholly original. It has a versatile modern profile with a gently bowed front edge, DIMENSIONS: 42″L x 9″D x 30-1/2″H.
Our resident furniture-making partner created this wall-hanging cabinet in an Arts & Crafts style. It might be a different design language, but all of his hallmark characteristics shine through: imaginative design, high-quality materials, solid construction, thoughtful functionality and attention to detail. Made of solid cherry with a wenge door handle. Includes a French cleat for easy hanging. CABINET DIMENSIONS (excluding crown and handle): 32-1/4″W x 6-3/4″D x 28″H. OVERALL DIMENSIONS: 39″W including crown + 7-1/2″ with handle projection.
