Arne Jacobsen’s extraordinary career left an indelible mark on modern design, from architecture and interiors to furniture. Of all his breakthrough accomplishments it’s his furniture that is most well known, especially the Swan Chair and the Egg Chair. The latter was a 1958 commission for the Royal SAS Hotel in Copenhagen and has since become a mid-century modern icon. We’re offering an authentic and iconic Egg Chair and matching ottoman made in Denmark by Fritz Hansen on behalf of a noted Minneapolis artist who has owned it since the early 1970s. It is in superb condition structurally and cosmetically. Both pieces were reupholstered by one of the region’s premier upholstery pros who has worked on dozens of these chairs. He used Kvadrat Hallingdal 65 fabric, created by Nanna Ditzel. The fabric content is 70% virgin wool and 30% viscose in a brown-black colorway. This is an exceptional opportunity to own a legendary and room-defining piece of mid-century history.

This nine-drawer, two-door lowboy dresser from the iconic Brasilia collection offers ample storage with abundant style. There are two stacks of drawers on each side, featuring the signature Brasilia drawer pulls. The two asymmetrical doors in the center, with the equally iconic parabolic design, conceal a set of open front drawers. This piece is fully restored. Dimensions are 66″L X 19″D X 31″H.

These Broyhill Brasília nightstands are fresh from a workshop restoration. Each offers a single drawer and lower shelf, plus the signature Brasília drawer handle. Dimensions are 22”W x 15”D x 22”H. Offered as a pair.

This teak dining table, made by Gudme Møbelfabrik (Denmark), combines style and practicality with a unique device for expanding it’s functional surface. The primary table is a flat boxed design with a purpose. That box conceals two pull-out frames – one on each end – that can hold matching table leaves. Simply extend one or both of the frames to add a leaf. The two leaves store neatly inside one of the frames. Fully extended, the table can seat eight comfortably. Freshly rejuvenated top to bottom with an oiled finish. Dimensions are 59″L when closed + 98″L with both leaves extended x 35-1/2″D x 28-1/2″H.

Gunlocke Furniture has been a mainstay of upper echelon office furniture for decades, best known for elegantly designed chairs. That heritage is part of what makes this sofa so exciting, so we invested in a complete makeover, from new soft gray upholstery (ARC-COM Santa Fe) and restoration of the exposed solid walnut base. Dimensions are 81″L x 31-3/4″D x 30″H to the top of the back cushions.

Compact, contemporary and comfortable two-seater club sofa in jet black, high-quality leather with timeless modern styling. In immaculate condition. Dimensions are 58″L x 33″D x 30-1/2″H.

Our master furniture-making partner has delivered another fresh design with these cased wood easy chairs. Although they have a mid-century vibe, the design is forward-looking modern with contoured arms, curved edges and light-toned wood. They’re made using solid anigre, a tropical hardwood with a look similar to maple. The cushions are covered in a rich tweed fabric, deep orange with shots of magenta, gold and pink. There are two chairs available.

Sit in the lap of style in this contemporary modern chair made by Steelcase. Designed for use in commercial spaces yet refined enough for use in your home. Each chair is upholstered in red boucle fabric that’s durable yet soft to the touch. The bases are made of heavy-weight aluminum with a matte finish. They have a 360-degree swivel and adjustable head rests. Dimensions are 35″W x 34-1/4″D x 41-1/4″H to top of the headrest.

Sophisticated, two-tiered mid-century coffee table with dual book-matched inlays on top and a woven cane lower shelf. We fully restored the wood frame and surface to draw out the impressive wood grains. Dimensions are 54″L x 21″D x 16″H.

This freshly designed and handmade elliptical-shaped coffee table is crafted with a solid cherry top and ebony-stained wood base. Dimensions are 54″L x 18″D c 16-1/4″H.

Exceptional vintage modern teak desk made in Denmark by Bernhard Pederson and Son. This secretary style desk has a drop down front that opens to reveal an organizer’s dream, with seven open cubbies and four felt-lined drawers. There’s even more storage below: a full-length drawer with dividers and a wide double cabinet with adjustable shelf. This piece is freshly restored with a hand-oiled finish. Dimensions are 35-1/2″W x 17-1/2″D (31-3/4″D with front dropped down) x 44″H.

This sleek walnut credenza from Jens Risom Design has a versatile configuration with two banks of drawers on the left (including a file drawer) and open compartments opposite. One of those compartments has a removable steel bin with walnut face. The cabinet is finished on all four sides, so this piece can be used to divide a space. It has undergone a complete renovation. Dimensions are 72″L x 210″D x 26-1/4″H.

In addition to a showroom full of furniture, we always have a robust selection of lamps. Many are vintage and rejuvenated, others are high-quality modern and some are new and made here in Minnesota. Visit the store for our current selection.

Paul McCobb’s Planner Group collection for Winchendon Furniture – circa 1953 – included the Model 1533 dining chair. It was nicknamed the shovel chair because of its shovel-like seat: flat and broad with upturned edges. The iron frame on this chair has been repainted in matte black enamel, and the wood seat and back are refinished with a tobacco-like stain.

Commanding Kent Coffey nine-drawer dresser in walnut from “The Wharton” collection. It’s a personality piece that can break up the monotony of a too-safe room design. Plus, it’s larger-than-average dimensions mean greater storage capacity. Freshly restored from top to bottom. Dimensions are 64”L x 20”D x 31”H.

Tinkering with modern master’s furniture designs is a delicate balance between making the piece functional and honoring the original aesthetic. We think we nailed it with a pair of Jens Risom Design Group R chests that were missing their bases. The first part of the process was to restore the walnut exterior and then polish the signature Risom brass drawer pulls. Next, we collaborated with a local maker to design and craft solid walnut legs that are both strong and integrated. This is the three-drawer version. See our listing of the four-drawer companion. Dimensions are 36″W x 21″D (plus 1-1/2″ drawer pull projection) x 31-1/4″H.

We’re fascinated by these post-WWII / pre-Scandinavian design pieces. They’re a bridge between aesthetic eras, with a little bit of Art Deco in tow while knocking on modernism’s door. This 1950s hope chest is the perfect example, and we restored it to its former glory. It was made by Cavalier Corp. using highly figured walnut for the exterior with a chevron inlay down the front-center. Open the lockable lid (key included) to an aromatic cedar lining with a cantilevered shelf for storing gloves, scarves and other delicate items. A bonus: all the original paperwork that came with the chest when it was new is included. Closed dimensions are 47″L x 17-1/2″D x 21-1/4″H.

Our favorite furniture-making partner is a genius with chairs, but designs and makes other impressive originals like these freeform, accent tables. He used solid anigre, a light-colored African hardwood, to produce tables with personality and practicality. The tops have soft reverse bevels and rest on four tapered and angled legs. Dimensions are 27-1/2″W x 22″D x 21-3/4″H. There are two available.

Our furniture-making partner continues to deliver singular designs using high-quality woods and an unbridled sense of creativity. He sculpted this bench (or coffee table) using solid hickory and allowed the grain patterns to define the fluid shape. It’s simultaneously modern and organic. Plus, it’s one of a kind. Dimensions are 57”L x 13-1/2”D x 18”H.

Form and function combine to create an genuinely versatile piece of furniture for home or office. This Danish modern square coffee table offers a generous surface and also four storage cubbies – one on each side. The compartments fit LPs perfectly but they’d be just as useful for board games and puzzles, books and magazines, kid’s flotsam or maybe a cozy cave for a cat. It sits on four smooth rolling casters, so you can change the scenery at will. Dimensions are 30″W x 30″W x 16-3/4″H.

We rarely have vintage shadowboxes in the store, but when we do they have to be really worthy. One of our +friends sourced this Illinois Moulding piece, but the images that flanked the mirror were damaged. So she replaced them using salvaged images from a large Turner Accessories print. The merger is an aesthetic success, with the wood box in a deep walnut finish and the moody skyline panels in saturated blues and greens. Dimensions are 39″ long x 18-3/4″ tall x 4-1/16″ projection.

Alongside from his notable chairs, Jens Risom is known for the design of the versatile T 621 bench-coffee table. It features his signature floating top design, as well as the luxurious use of high-quality walnut. This piece is built strong, so it can be used many ways: as a coffee table, bench or platform for companion furniture. Fully restored. Dimensions are 54″L x 21″D x 15″H.

Handsome nesting table set with lines simple enough to fit into a modern interior. Subtle detail like beveled table edges make them work in a more formal setting, as well. They can be used individually, with each table fully stand-alone. They tuck into a compact footprint by sliding them in on built-in rails. The tops are a lighter wood, possibly teak, and have glass inserts that can be removed. Dimensions for each table are: LARGE 20-1/2″W x 14-1/2″D x 20″H, MEDIUM 17-1/2″W x 13-1/4″D x 19″H and SMALL 14-1/4″W x 12-1/4″D x 17-3/4″H.

Ingenious accent table set designed by Kai Kristiansen for Vildberg Mobelfabrik (Denmark). Three tables that stand alone and then nest into a tidy cube. It’s a marvel of design and functionality. The tables are made of teak solid and teak veneers on hardwood. Each tabletop is 16″ square, and when nested the dimensions are 16-3/4″ wide x 16″ deep x 16″ high.

Lane Furniture’s Perception series was an exercise in modern organic design: unusual yet popular for its unique styling and high-quality materials and construction. We’ve restored this one to revitalize the walnut and ash materials, as well as Perception-specific features like the woven wood drawer front, curved legs and brass ball accents. Table dimensions are 22″W x 30″D x 15″H to the lower tabletop and 22″H maximum height.

The Acclaim collection from Lane Furniture debuted in 1959 and over the course of its run became one of the top-selling designs in America. Broad-based acceptance of the style led to the creation of dozens of pieces, from case goods and dining furniture to cabinets, accent tables, coffee tables and special purpose pieces. This dual drop leaf coffee table is among the more rare designs and was made in the collection’s first year – on March 21, 1959 to be exact. It’s classic Acclaim, from the tapered stretcher bars to the black-tipped legs. But the drop leaf ends are a twist that makes this table unique. We fully restored it in a walnut finish that delivers a mellow tone to the walnut and fruit wood combination. Dimensions are 45″L with leaves down and 60″L with leaves up x 20″D x 15″H.

Our partner ModiLumi Lighting is known nationwide for the high quality of its vintage-inspired lampshades. But they also design and make one-of-a-kind lamps. We’re proud to offer this unique floor lamp with gallery table, with oval-shaped table and shade atop a tripod base. Dimensions are 15-1/2″W x 10-1/2″D x 50″H to the top of the shade and 17-1/2″H to the tabletop.

Exquisite console table from Baker Furniture’s mid-century era Far East Collection designed by Michael Taylor. It features a framed walnut top that rests on two sculpted 16″ square pedestals with open compartments and slim drawers. Asian design influences dominate but don’t overwhelm so this piece can work in multiple settings from modern to boho to traditional. Restoration of the top and a careful rejuvenation all around leaves this piece in exceptional condition. Overall dimensions are 53-3/4″L x 16″D x 29-1/4″H.

Oh, the joy of a simple, modern accent table designed and handmade in Minnesota by a furniture savant. Our resident maker adapted an earlier design, with scooped front and back panels, and built this piece using solid Santos mahogany. Perfect between two chairs, as a nightstand and in small spaces. Dimensions are 15-1/2″W x 18-1/4″D x 22″H.

This compact coffee table comes from the imagination and skills of our furniture-making partner. It’s another original design and scaled to fit alongside vintage mid-century furniture. Crafted using solid Santos mahogany, an extra-dense wood found in Mexico, Central America and South America. That makes this table especially durable and heavy. Dimensions are 42″L x 17-1/2″D x 16″H.

Here’s another handcrafted original from our furniture-designing and making partner: a bench using South American-sourced andiroba wood. From the chevron backrest and cantilevered seat to the rich wood grain, it is both modern and organic with a style that could fit into most any decor. Dimensions are 49″L x 15″D x 30″H to the top of the back and 18″H seat.

Another original from our furniture-making partner, and as always he’s paired form and function to create fantastic furniture. This piece is a combination bench-coffee table. Or maybe it’s the coffee table you’re allowed to put your feet up on. It’s built using solid red oak with a white-washed finish, giving it a strong Scandinavian vibe. The removable cushions are upholstered in an ocean blue-silver gray tweed with button tufting. The boxed center of the bench-table creates the perfect place to stash reading material, TV remotes or a gaming controller. Dimensions are 56″L x 20-1/2″D x 19″H to the top of the boxed center.

Elegant modern bucket chairs upholstered in soft, supple gray leather. The swiveling seats are perched on heavy steel bases with four-point legs. Like-new condition.

Designed and developed in 1946 by Charles and Ray Eames, this clever room divider might be just right for current times. We all need a little privacy, but it’s nice to share space with the right people, too. The Folding Wood Screen (FWS) adds flexibility and portability, with six undulating panels that unfold from a slim vertical to a five-foot divider. The panels are made using ash veneer on the front and back over layers of maple. Each panel is connected with a polypropylene mesh fabric, allowing flexible positioning of the panels. The FWS was in production from 1946 to 1955, retired and then reintroduced by Herman Miller in 1994. This piece is from that second generation of production. Open screen dimensions are 60″L x 2-1/4″D x 68″H, and 10″W in the folded position.

The LCW Chair (Lounge height side Chair on Wood base) was designed by Charles and Ray Eames in the late 1940s and originally manufactured by the Evans Molded Plywood Division. Herman Miller soon took over and the chair design achieved true icon status. This authentic model is from Herman Miller circa 2006 and made of layered ash plywood. It’s in mint condition and has all the original labels.

The timelessly modern Rondo chair was design by interior architect Jan Lunde Knudsen circa 1961 and manufactured by Karl Sørlie & Sønner in Sarpsborg, Norway. It is simultaneously minimalist and inviting, combining a simple polished steel frame with rounded seat and hoop backrest. Freshly upholstered in high-grade leatherette. Dimensions are 23″W x 17″D x 27-1/2″H to the top of the seat back.

In a museum, it’s forbidden to sit on the artwork. But this sinuously sculpted solid cherry arm chair invites you to break the rules, albeit in your own home. Designed and made in Italy in the 1980s by A. Sibau.

It’s hard to deny the charm of an accent table that was designed specifically with darning socks in mind. Or maybe knitting a pair. This vintage table from Brode Blindheim (Norway) is as charming as it is practical. The sturdy teak frame houses a slide-out drawer for sewing notions atop a slide-out woven basket for holding sewing, knitting, needlework or other textile projects. Fully restored frame. Dimensions are 23-3/4″W x 21-1/8″D x 20″H.

Iconic original coffee table designed by Adrian Pearsall and made by Craft Associates. The 1465-T features a solid walnut base (fully restored) that has an organic feel yet is precisely proportioned. The original kidney-shaped glass top is 1/2″ thick. Dimensions are 48″L x 32″D x 16-3/4″H.

Designed by Niels Otto Møller and introduced by J.L. Møller Møbelfabrik in 1963, the Model 80A stool is a Danish modern design classic. We have two available. Both have solid teak legs and hardwood frames. One features classic Danish woven cord and the other is upholstered in a neutral tweed fabric. Dimensions are 19-1/2″L x 14″W x 18-1/2″H.

This compact accent table was designed by Paul McCobb for his Irwin Collection that was made circa 1950s by Calvin Furniture. This configuration includes a walnut frame, slim top drawer with signature McCobb pulls, two woven cane shelves and an inlaid leather top. The cane is in perfect condition and we’ve rejuvenated the walnut. The leather top is fully intact – no tears or holes – with an age-appropriate patina. We cleaned and conditioned the leather to keep it supple. Dimensions are 20″W x 24″D x 19-1/4″H.

Enduring design from Lane Furniture that’s as popular today as it was in its early 1960s heyday. The combination of walnut and fruit wood with a subtle variation in tint is part of the classic look. Freshly restored and in tip-top condition. Dimensions are 21″W x 28″L x 20″H.

Teak nightstand designed by Nils Jonsson and made by Torring Mobelfabrik (Denmark). It features a large open compartment (perfect for your stack of bedtime reading) and an all-purpose drawer. Concave drawer pull. Freshly restored with an oil finish. Dimensions are 19-5/8″W x 17-1/4″D x 22-1/2″H.

The twin (or single) bed is scarce today, but it was the dominant frame size of the post-World War II era and into the 1960s. Even adult couples often had individual beds with a solo nightstand in between. This twin headboard/footboard combination is from Lane Furniture’s Perception collection. It features the signature woven walnut accent, heavily figured walnut expanse and American ash surround. This frame is freshly restored and just needs a readily available steel foundation to make it perfect for the cabin, in a kid’s room or as a daybed. The headboard is stamped on back with the manufacture date March 16, 1965. Headboard dimensions are 40-1/4″W x 36-1/4″H.

Classic Danish modern sideboard made circa 1960s by Clausen & Son. It has an open compartment on each side, accessible behind smooth-gliding bypass doors. There is a stack of four drawers down the center. The integrated bowtie-shaped teak handles give this piece its signature look. Fully restored with a hand-oiled finish. Dimensions are 63″L x 18″D x 29″H.

This teak credenza-sideboard delivers an understated, elegant design profile alongside impressive storage capacity. Made in Denmark by Dyrlund, it features two large tambour doors that slide open to reveal massive compartments with adjustable shelves (there are three to configure as you please). Down the middle is a bank of five tray drawers. The cabinet is finished on four sides, so it can be used to divide a large space. Restored top and refreshed all around with a teak oil finish. Dimensions are 74-1/2″L x 19-1/4″D x 30-5/8″H.

Long and low slung teak sideboard-credenza made in Norway. It features dual cabinets with one adjustable shelf in each, plus a four-drawer stack down the center. Dimensions are 72″L x 16-5/8″D x 30″H.

This free-standing room divider is an extraordinary combination; it’s both a work of art and a practical piece of furniture. From the Conant Ball Furniture Company Norsemates collection in the late 1950s to early 1960s, it is made of solid birch. Although its primary purpose is to partition larger spaces, it does so with a certain airiness: open dowels in the back and a raised bench-style base. We’ve imagined a number of uses for it. Our favorite is a stereo bench with one side of the base for components and the other for LPs. In exceptional condition. Dimensions are 52″W x 18-3/4″D (15″ bench depth) x 62-3/8″H.

Handsome bookcase made of steel and glass. Made by Globe-Wernicke beginning in about 1915, modular bookcases like these were used in both home and office settings. This set includes three bookcase/display sections, matching base and top (five pieces in all). Each bookcase/display section has a flip-front door with glass to protect the contents from dust and other incursions. All have original glass and knobs, and there are original component stickers on most of the pieces – plus the metal Globe-Wernicke badge. Rejuvenated with a fresh coat of sprayed gray enamel paint that closely matches the original color. Dimensions are 33″W x 13″D x 56-1/2″H.

Handsome display cabinet made in Denmark by Dyrlund and featuring top-notch materials, construction and finishes – including lots of teak solids. The compact size and open/concealed storage spaces add to its versatility. The lower section has four generous drawers with wood drawer boxes. Above are three backlit shelves that give the display area a warm glow. Dimensions are 43″W x 18″D x 58-1/2″H.

Classic early 1960s walnut coffee table from Lane Furniture’s popular Rhythm collection. This configuration is less commonly found: it has a square cabinet with a super-sized drawer perfect for stashing games, crafts or your favorite throw for sofa surfing. Made April 16, 1966 and freshly restored. Dimensions are 18″ square x 16″ high.

We’re not sure who designed or made these swiveling, reclining tub chairs but they definitely have a 1960s late night talk show vibe. Polished steel bases with tilt control. Upholstered in dark mauve tweed fabric. Dimensions are 27”W x 29”D x 26”H and 17” seat height. There are two available.

Iconic late 1960s/early 1970s chair designed by Bill Stephens and made by Knoll. It was first used in the then-new Yale School of Architecture student center. Design highlights are the organic bent wood frame and suspended bucket seat. This frame is rejuvenated but unaltered. The original Knoll upholstery is in exceptional condition.

Beautiful 1970s reproduction of the bentwood rocking chair made by Thonet with a design dating from the early 1900s. Just like the original, this chair has a rounded bamboo frame, an open bamboo hoop at the base of the back, and caned seat and seat back. It has a wood-burned “made in Poland” stamp in the frame. The frame and cane are in exceptional condition.

This early 1970s Danish modern coffee table designed by Niels Bach in solid oak is all clean lines and powerful construction. Use it as a coffee or corner table. Dimensions are 27-1/4″W x 27″D x 16″H.

Throw a little variety into your decor with a piece or two that shakes up the monotony of an all-modern aesthetic. This handsome two-drawer antique chest might do the trick. The design is still relatively simple – like the best of modern – but has some flourishes that set it apart. All wood construction with a black exterior finish, red lacquered drawer boxes, distinctive drawer pulls and a beveled top edge. Dimensions are 22-3/4″ square x 23″ high.

This solid cherry dining table and chairs made in the early 1960s by Willett Furniture Co. was built to last. So we revitalized it for the next generations of use. Starting with the table top, we refinished it to tease out the variegated wood tones. Next was rejuvenation of the table base and every chair. The table goes from compact to family-sized courtesy of two large leaves that drop to the sides when not needed. Plus there’s a 14″ external leaf. A pair of sturdy, tapered legs pulls out to support each leaf, then tuck away when not needed. There are six chairs, including two with arms – again all solid cherry. Includes a full set of table pads. Table length expands from 27″ with leaves down to 72″ with both leaves up and 86″ with the extra center leaf. Width is 44″ and height is 29″.

We restored the original walnut bases and added new fabric lampshades.

Teak-framed mirror by Aksel Kjersgaard (Denmark) opens to give you an expansive vanity mirror experience. The mirror is designed to be hung or it can rest – while opened – on a countertop. Dimensions are 25-9/16″W (closed) and 51-1/8″W (open) x 1-3/4″D x 23-1/2″H.

Just wanted to tell you what an enjoyable shopping experience we had on Friday, Sept. 8th. I found just what I wanted! The owners were helpful and kind (and they love dogs). Will definitely shop there again.
