When you think about a vintage barrister bookcase, images of Arts & Crafts design come to mind. Think again. This modular bookcase circa 1950s-1960s from Hale Industries has classic mid-century modern style – from the double beveled facade to the conical brass legs. The set includes three modular cases with flip fronts and the base. Freshly rejuvenated walnut exterior. DIMENSIONS: 34-1/2W x 11-3/4″D x 44-3/4″H.

As a rule, art is to be looked at and admired but not handled. Especially not sat upon. But our furniture-making partner creates chairs that want to be both looked at and sat upon. Like this handcrafted, solid walnut chair with dramatically flared arms and ladder back. The cushions are a soft oatmeal boucle. Only one of this design available.

Model C 120 easy chair from American-Danish design icon Jens Risom. The rejuvenated solid walnut frame is soft-edged with lightly sculpted arms. And although it’s compact in size, it offers the comfort of a fully upholstered chair. It’s freshly upholstered in a textured tweed that plays off the walnut frame.

This restored Jens Risom Design bench is bringing sexy back to wherever you place it. It’s a 1960s design with Risom’s signature floating top profile. The base is solid walnut and fully restored. The bench top is newly upholstered – with box stitching and button tufting – in a high-quality charcoal fabric.DIMENSIONS: 48″L x 24″D x 18″H.

Jens Risom was noted for his floating top designs in which the surface – a tabletop, chair seat or bench seat – appeared to hover above the supporting frame. He brought that design to the U-620 bench and we’ve brought it back to life with: full restoration of the walnut frame and new upholstery in a high-quality orange tweed fabric. DIMENSIONS: 48″L x 19″D x 17″H.

Adapting vintage furniture that’s well-built but not not well-configured for modern needs is both craft and art. We reimagined an oversized, laminate top Jens Risom accent table as a roomy ottoman or bench by cutting down the square top to a more manageable size. Then we added a punch of color using vintage Ikat style fabric to create an upholstered top – box-stitched and button tufted. The walnut base retains the Risom signature floating look. DIMENSIONS: 32-1/2W x 27″D x 18″H.

This solid walnut bookcase was custom-built for a mid-century home in Rochester, MN. It hung on a wall for two generations, but we wanted to make it more adaptable and added six tapered steel legs. Then we restored the walnut to make it ready for the next generations of enjoyment. DIMENSIONS: 80-1/4”L x 12”D x 38”H

It’s not too large. And not too small. In fact, it’s just right for a home office. This freshly restored Danish modern desk features four drawers: one file sized and the rest utility sized. Includes the skeleton key that locks two of the drawers. DIMENSIONS: 52-3/4″L 23″D x 28-1/2″H.

Distinctive six-drawer walnut dresser that’s a bit more compact in length yet taller overall. Restored walnut and ash exterior with alternating vertical-horizontal drawer faces. DIMENSIONS: 51-3/4″L x 18-1/2″D x 32″H.

Rescue and reuse is core to our restored furniture and decor offering. But one of our partners wins the creative reuse trophy for these vibrant, colorful art panels that she made using vintage fabric sample books. She selected multiple swatches for each panel, telling a cohesive color story with varied patterns. She sewed individual samples together and lined the backs of the assembled panels for stiffness and to reduce translucency. All are in black lacquered woods and can be displaying horizontally or vertically.
+ LEFT: EXTRA-LARGE EARTH TONES | $245 | dimensions 64-5/8″L x 42-1/4″H.

Rolls on four quiet casters. DIMENSIONS: 24-1/2″L x 18″W x 28-1/2H to top tier and 33-3/4″H to top of extended side panel.

It’s amazing how the simplest design lines can create the greatest drama in furniture. Like this handsome burl wood sideboard designed by Milo Baughman and made by Thayer Coggin. There are two double-door compartments. On the left is an open space with adjustable shelves, one full length and the depth and the other set back. The opposite compartment has an H-shaped divider with two drawers. The cabinet is suspended from a chrome-plated steel base. Freshly rejuvenated exterior and cleaned interior. Magna-ificent chest of drawers from Broyhill Furniture’s 1960s Sculptra line. It was dubbed the Magna because of its size and storage capacity. With eight drawers and double cabinet with dividers, you can organize your entire wardrobe (and maybe then some). DIMENSIONS: 54″L x 17″D x 43″H.

Matching pair of twin headboards from Broyhill Furniture’s Sculptra series. Use this rejuvenated pair in a guest room or kid’s room or get creative and combine them to make a king headboard. DIMENSIONS EACH: 40″W x 38″H and 16-3/4″ to the bottom cross board.

Brutalist style chest of drawer circa early 1970s from Lane Furniture’s Staccato collection. It’s a little larger than the typical mid-century chest, which means more capacity for your clothing. DIMENSIONS: 38″W x 18-3/4″D x 53-3/4″H. We also have these Lane Staccato pieces in the store: queen headboard, nightstand pair and double mirror.

The 1970s ushered in a new design era and the brutalist architectural style migrated to furniture. These cabinet nightstands are part of Lane Furniture’s Staccato collection, featuring complex facades with blocks of varied width and depth. Inside is a roomy compartment with a fixed shelf. DIMENSIONS: 27-3/4″W x 16″D x 22″H. We also have these Lane Staccato pieces in the store: tallboy chest, queen headboard and double mirror.

Distinctive coffee table designed by Johannes Aasbjerg for Illums Bolighus (Denmark) circa 1965. Freshly reskinned top with dramatically figured rosewood offset by a minimalist steel and rosewood base. DIMENSIONS: 65″L x 19-3/8″ x 17″.

Use this impressive walnut credenza to make a design statement while still be pragmatic about function. This piece comes from the Alma Desk Company Castilian collection circa 1960s. The design is a step above and the quality of materials and construction match. We restored it to enhance the walnut wood patterns. Storage space is abundant, with dual bi-fold doors in the center giving access to a large compartment. On the left is a file depth drawer and utility drawer. Opposite is a four-drawer stack. Dimensions are 78-1/4″L x 21-1/4″D x 28-3/4″H.

| MADE IN MINNESOTA FURNITURE COLLECTION |
Thoughtfully designed and handcrafted furniture created one piece at a time by our furniture-making partner. Every design is original and some are one-of-a-kind. They are made locally using solid wood, from walnut and white oak to sustainable tropical varieties, and are available exclusively at MidModMen+friends.

Our locally based furniture-making partner is channeling his Nordic roots with a series of new pieces using natural white oak. This mid-century style coffee table uses the material to great effect. The size is versatile and the it features a pass-through shelf. DIMENSIONS: 50″L x 21″D x 17″H.

Minnesota-made coffee table in white oak for that classic Scandinavian modern look. It’s scaled for mid-sized sofas and features a handy drawer. DIMENSIONS: 52″L x 21-3/4″D x 16″H.

Our furniture-making partner’s capacity for imagination and craft always surprises us and never lets us down.
His latest is a series of handcrafted, solid wood pedestals that serve as perfect perches for art. Yet they’re works of art in their own right – and each is one of a kind. All are 29″ tall and the platforms vary in size. The two left and right are made of African mahogany. The one in the center is walnut.

Another artfully designed console table from our furniture-making partner. He crafted this one using solid hickory, which has distinctive figuring in the wood. There is a clear Scandinavian feel to the design, but it’s wholly original. It has a versatile modern profile with a gently bowed front edge, DIMENSIONS: 42″L x 9″D x 30-1/2″H.

Powerfully built but elegantly designed solid wood bench from our furniture-making partner. He used andiroba, a tropical species in the mahogany family that is safely available for harvest. The bench top is three linear slabs with slim spacing between. The base frame and legs are built strong to support seating for an adult or two. DIMENSIONS: 58″L x 15-1/4″D x 17-1/2″H.

Our resident furniture-making partner created this wall-hanging cabinet in an Arts & Crafts style. It might be a different design language, but all of his hallmark characteristics shine through: imaginative design, high-quality materials, solid construction, thoughtful functionality and attention to detail. Made of solid cherry with a wenge door handle. Includes a French cleat for easy hanging. CABINET DIMENSIONS (excluding crown and handle): 32-1/4″W x 6-3/4″D x 28″H. OVERALL DIMENSIONS: 39″W including crown + 7-1/2″ with handle projection.
| EVEN MORE AVAILABLE IN THE STORE |

Vintage wood frame easy chairs fully restored and elevated with brand new cushions. The wasabi-colored cushion fabric is 78% recycled, so they’re green in more ways than one. Available individually.

When life gives you an unusual chair, you can either tone it down or totally lean into its uniqueness. We did the latter, of course, with this solid cherry frame chair. The cut-out back panel lets the graphic floral fabric we chose peek through. Fully restored frame and brand new cushions. DIMENSIONS: 26-1/4″W x 32″D x 41-1/2″H.

Elegant modern bucket chairs upholstered in soft, supple gray leather. The swiveling seats are perched on heavy steel bases with four-point legs. Like-new condition. There are four available.

The timelessly modern Rondo chair was design by interior architect Jan Lunde Knudsen circa 1961 and manufactured by Karl Sørlie & Sønner in Sarpsborg, Norway. It is simultaneously minimalist and inviting, combining a simple polished steel frame with rounded seat and hoop backrest. Freshly upholstered in high-grade leatherette. Dimensions are 23″W x 17″D x 27-1/2″H to the top of the seat back.

Floor pillow sets were a thing in the 1960s, adding casual seating and often a little pizzazz. Our partner found the base cushion on casters, but the original pillows were long gone. So she had three compatible cushions made brand new. Sold as a set. DIMENSIONS: 20″W x 20″D x 21-1/2″H.

Need a lot of storage for your stylish wardrobe? Want to break out of the design mold? Consider this vintage campaign-style chest of drawers. It has five generous drawers housed in an extra-tall walnut case. The brass drawer handles and embellishments complete the classic campaign look. DIMENSIONS: 36″W x 18″D x 50-1/2″H.

This walnut chest is upright and out of sight (at least the drawers behind the double doors on top are out of sight). Fully restored. DIMENSIONS: 40-1/8″W x 18-1/4″D x 47″H.

Tinkering with a modern master’s furniture designs is a delicate balance between making the piece functional and honoring the original aesthetic. We think we nailed it on this Jens Risom Design Group R chest that came to us without a base. The first part of the process was to restore the walnut exterior and then polish the signature Risom brass drawer pulls. Next, we collaborated with a local maker to design and craft solid walnut legs that are both strong and integrated. DIMENSIONS: 36″W x 21″D (plus 1-1/2″ drawer pull projection) x 31-1/4″H.

Commanding Kent Coffey nine-drawer dresser in walnut from “The Wharton” collection. It’s a personality piece that can break up the monotony of a too-safe room design. Plus, it’s larger-than-average dimensions mean greater storage capacity. Freshly restored from top to bottom. DIMENSIONS: 64”L x 20”D x 31”H.

Sophisticated 1950s lowboy dresser with a surprise: when the drawers are closed it looks like there are nine. In reality there are six. It’s a great visual trick with the upside of having a stack of larger drawers with more capacity. Birch cabinet and drawer fronts, all original pulls and freshly restored/rejuvenated. DIMENSIONS: 52″L x 20″D x 32″H.

There’s walnut and then there’s this walnut! Handsome two-door campaign style chest fully restored to reveal an eye-popping walnut exterior on all four sides. Classic brass fittings on the corners and brass door handles. We imagine multiple uses for this piece: end table or nightstand, coffee table, small media cabinet or in an entryway. DIMENSIONS: 32″L x 18-1/2″D x 19″H.

The family that plays (board games) together stays together. But where to put the games when the fun is done? This coffee/accent table is also a cabinet with a big, open storage compartment behind two doors. The fully restored exterior features walnut panels on three sides plus a pair of doors with brushed aluminum pulls. The top is a work of art with eye-popping, book-matched rosewood. DIMENSIONS: 27″ square x 19″ high.

SOPHISTICATED CABINET STYLE ACCENT TABLE | $495 It might be “just” an accent table, but it’s sophisticated styling and high-quality materials put it on par with major pieces of furniture. The double-door cabinet rests on a base with double stretchers. It was made using all walnut and has a rosewood inlay on the top. Even the solid brass pulls are a step above. Freshly restored. DIMENSIONS: 25″W x 25″D x 22-1/2″H.
BROWN SALTMAN PEDESTAL ACCENT TABLE | $695 Rare pedestal style accent table designed by John Keal and made by Brown Saltman. This petite walnut piece – fully restored – features an open cabinet accessed by a door with a signature round pull. DIMENSIONS: 20″W x 20″D x 16″H.
ANTIQUE 2-DRAWER ASIAN CHEST | $485 Throw a little variety into your decor with this two-drawer Asian antique chest. Like the best of modernism, the design is relatively simple with flourishes that set it apart. All wood construction with a black exterior finish, red lacquered drawer boxes, distinctive drawer pulls and a beveled top edge. DIMENSIONS: 22-3/4″ square x 23″ high.

ARTISAN MADE FIDDLEBACK WOOD ACCENT TABLE | $795 This elegantly designed and hand-crafted accent table is further elevated with the use of exceptional woods: curly maple and a fiddleback exotic wood for the top and shelf. The two-shelf design brings plenty of function to go along with the form. DIMENSIONS: 20-3/8″W x 15-1/2″D x 27″H.
BASSETT WALNUT ACCENT TABLE | $365 The 1960s era designers at Bassett Furniture must have had (Broyhill) Brasilia envy when they created this line of furniture. It mimics the latter’s parabolic swoop while establishing its own look. Fully restored walnut with a trestle base. DIMENSIONS: 30″L x 20″D x 20-1/4″H.
LANE PERCEPTION LANE PERCEPTION ACCENT TABLE | $395 Lane Furniture’s Perception Series was introduced in 1960 and featured organic elements like curving legs and basketweave fascia on drawer fronts. This restored lamp table incorporates both design elements, along with the signature brass bead that connects the legs to the drawer box. DIMENSIONS: 22″W x 30″D x 20″H.

Substantial Danish modern console table with a teak base and frame. The top is a mosaic of ceramic tile, glass tile and slate. DIMENSIONS: 53″L x 17″D x 26-1/4″H.

Is it a tiny desk? A petite server-dry bar? Maybe a crafting table? While it began life as a sewing machine cabinet, we updated it to create many ways to use this piece. The flip-open top doubles the amount of surface space, bolstered by a solid wood slide-out support. There’s even a hidden storage compartment that pops out from the side. Everything’s freshly restored. DIMENSIONS: 26-1/4″W (52-5/8″W when fully open) x 18-1/8″D x 32″H.

Designed by Niels Otto Møller and introduced by J.L. Møller Møbelfabrik in 1963, the Model 80A stool is a Danish modern design classic. We have two available. Both have solid teak legs and hardwood frames. One features classic Danish woven cord and the other is upholstered in a neutral tweed fabric. DIMENSIONS: 19-1/2″L x 14″W x 18-1/2″H.

Designed and developed in 1946 by Charles and Ray Eames, this clever room divider might be just right for current times. We all need a little privacy, but it’s nice to share space with the right people, too. The Folding Wood Screen (FWS) adds flexibility and portability, with six undulating panels that unfold from a slim vertical to a five-foot divider. The panels are made using ash veneer on the front and back over layers of maple. Each panel is connected with a polypropylene mesh fabric, allowing flexible positioning of the panels. The FWS was in production from 1946 to 1955, retired and then reintroduced by Herman Miller in 1994. This piece is from that second generation of production. OPEN DIMENSIONS: 60″L x 2-1/4″D x 68″H, and 10″W in the folded position.

From the Conant Ball Furniture Company Norsemates collection in the late 1950s to early 1960s, this free-standing room divider is both a work of art and a practical piece of furniture. It’s made of solid birch, and although its primary purpose is to partition larger spaces, it does so with a certain airiness: open dowels in the back and a raised bench-style base. In exceptional condition. DIMENSIONS: 52″W x 18-3/4″D (15″ bench depth) x 62-3/8″H.
